Massage Therapy as a Career
Massage has entered mainstream America

Massage therapy, the oldest form of healing, is now a viable career choice for many wishing to enter the health care profession. It is a drugless, painless approach to wellness, and is a rewarding experience for both the client and the practitioner.

Career opportunities are many. Massage therapists are working in chiropractic and orthopedic offices, health clubs, corporate settings, private practices, hair and nail salons, for professional sports teams, spas and resorts. The list grows larger every day.

For example, sports massage is increasingly recognized to be an important factor in achieving the competitive edge in athletes. Sports massage is utilized by teams and individuals for injury prevention, to promote healing, or to warm-up at the site of the event. Athletes and coaches realize that regular massage therapy can actually increase athletic performance and speed recovery time from muscular injuries.

Most therapists earn $30-$60 per hour of massage (to calculate an annual example, consider that twenty hours a week adds up to about 1000 hours a year).

Why a career in massage therapy? There are a variety of reasons why people decide to enter the field of Massage Therapy. They may be starting their first career, making a career change, returning to work, seeking to supplement their income with part time work, etc.

But all who enter the profession have something in common - the desire to help others.

Massage Therapy is a flexible career. One of the most attractive aspects of the massage therapy profession is the flexibility. You can choose to work part time or full time. You may choose to work for yourself at home or at leased or shared office space. You may choose to work for someone else.
